RADCLIFF, Ky. (WDRB) — Boundary Oak Distillery is set to bring a new type of bourbon experience to the city of Radcliff. Many believe that with it, can come widespread economic benefit as well.
“This building has so much more potential,” said Economic Development Director J.J. Duval. ”It was built for tourism and, of course, bourbon brings tourism.”
The expansion will be housed in the former Challenger Education Center on Joe Prather Highway. Once renovations are completed this summer, leaders say the 12,000 square foot facility will become a destination for all bourbon lovers.
“The bourbon trail and bourbon tourism is exploding,” said Boundary Oak Distillery owner Brent Goodin.
Goodin’s hope is that his new expansion will soon be a part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, which saw more than 700,000 visitors last year. For the city Radcliff, it hopes just a small portion of those type of tourism can be brought to the city with this opening.
“Maybe we get 50,000,” said Radcliff Mayor Mike Wallace, “Maybe we get 100,000 any city that wouldn’t want that is not thinking ahead. “
Goodin says there will be bourbon tastings, hands-on distilling demonstrations and even a 30-seat movie theater inside the facility. Boundary Oak’s original location is located outside of the city limits of Radcliff, creating a conundrum for Goodin to use that existing site because Hardin is a dry county. However, alcohol sales are allowed within the city limits of Radcliff.
For us to be able to participate in any of the bourbon tourism we needed to find a facility that was in the wet area,” Goodin said.
Goodin says they hope to open the doors to the new facility some time this summer.
